Editing Samples

Gina served as Managing Editor of Hooked on the Outdoors magazine from 2004-2006. During her tenure, the multi-sport travel magazine won four regional and national awards (its first and only industry awards). Prior to Hooked, Gina was Senior Associate Editor of Backpacker and Camper magazines. And she’s worked as an editor and reporter for newspapers and regional magazines throughout the Southeast.

This 17-page travel package is one of several that Gina conceived, assigned, edited and co-wrote while working as managing editor at Hooked. (VIEW)

Health and Fitness Special Issue, Hooked on the Outdoors, September 2005
Gina served as chief editor for this issue, planning every feature and department, delegating assignments, top-editing all of the stories, and writing the editor’s letter. (VIEW)

“Backpacker U: Study Up. Get Smarter. Camp Better.” Backpacker, August 2002
For this 12-page package, Gina worked with a group of writers, outdoor experts, and celebrities to provide the most comprehensive how-to feature Backpacker had published to-date. This piece required long hours collaborating with the magazine’s art and editorial directors to ensure the best headlines, photography, and sidebar formats. (VIEW)

A 9-page travel feature that highlighted the best places in North America to play hard and then indulge in ultra-relaxing and high-calorie treats. Gina developed, edited, and co-wrote this package. (VIEW)
